DT8: Callan Rydz claims first PDC title with victory on the Unicorn Development Tour in Wigan

Callan Rydz pocketed his maiden PDC title after winning Event 8 of the 2019 PDC Unicorn Development Tour on Sunday.

The former Finder Darts Masters youth champion battled through a field of more than 200 players at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, in Wigan, earlier today.

The Newcastle youngster averaged a tournament high 94.59 across the event, with his route to the £2,000 prize culminating with a 106 average in a 5-2 victory against Luke Humphries in the final.

Rydz dropped just one leg on his way to reaching the quarter-finals, as he saw off Oliver Kay (4-0), Stephen Rosney (4-0), Adam Paxton (4-1), Dylan Powell (4-0) and Keelan Kay (4-0).

Tougher examinations then followed for Rydz, as he defeated Kevin Doets (5-4) and Mike De Decker (5-3), before edging past Humphries in the decider.

A first PDC title for Rydz also pushes him up to third on the Development Tour Order of Merit. His £3,500 haul is only bettered by double-event winner Ryan Meikle (£4,250) and Ted Evetts (£4,150).
