Gary Robson will be hoping to put his Lakeside disappointment behind him as he enters the Romanian International Open as the top seed this weekend.
The Category B event takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel, in Bucharest, on Sunday, with a top prize of €2,000 for the winner.
Robson, who went out in the first round of the BDO World Championship earlier this month, goes in as the top seed for the event, as Glen Durrant and Mark McGeeney have both made the switch to the PDC and the other five players above him in the rankings have not entered.
The BDO ranked number eight will be joined by Wayne Warren (11th), Dave Parletti (12th), Derk Telnekes (14th), defending champion Martin Phillips (21st), Tony O’Shea (22nd), Wouter Vaes (23rd) and Nick Kenny (30th).
Phillips won the tournament for the first time last year, beating Garry Thompson in the final, while 2013 winner O’Shea and 2010 champion Nandor Bezzeg have also entered.
Ahead of Sunday’s Open, the Romanian Classic (Category C) takes place tomorrow. Daniel Day beat Vaes in last year’s men’s final.
Meanwhile, Karolina Podgorska is aiming for a third consecutive ladies’ title in the Romanian Open after winning the event in 2017 and 2018.
The Pole, who made her debut at Lakeside a few weeks ago, beat Julie Thompson in last year’s final to retain the title.
Deta Hedman, last year’s Romanian Classic winner, will be the top seed this weekend, in the absence of top two Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock.
