Race to Minehead: Martin Schindler moves into provisional qualifying places for the 2019 Players Championship Finals with four events to go

Martin Schindler has moved into the provisional field for the 2019 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals with four events to go before the cut-off.

The German thrower, 23, lost 6-4 to Jonathan Worsley in the first round of Players Championship 25, on Saturday, but responded with a run to the last 16 the following day.

Schindler claimed wins over Darren Webster (6-4), Stephen Bunting (6-4) and Nathan Aspinall (6-4), before bowing out to Steve West 6-3 in the last 16 of Players Championship 26.

Sunday’s run was enough to push Schindler into the qualifying places for Minehead. He started the weekend in 66th spot, but is now joint-61st, alongside Devon Petersen. Ted Evetts, who started the weekend in the final qualifying spot in 64th, has dropped to joint-65th.

Daryl Gurney, the world number three, picked up his first floor title of 2019, beating Nathan Aspinall 8-5 in the final of Players Championship 25. The reigning Players Championship Finals champion climbed from 29th to 16th on the latest Order of Merit for Minehead.

Mensur Suljovic defied a nine-dart finish from Ian White to win Sunday’s final 8-7, and has risen from 41st to 18th on the newest Players Championship Order of Merit.

With only four events left to go before the 64-player field is finalised, Gary AndersonDarren Webster and Jamie Lewis are the only three players in the top 32 of the world currently set to miss out.

The Players Championship series resumes next week with Events 27 and 28 in Dublin between October 4-5.
