Race to the Indigo at the O2: Andreas Harrysson secures BDO World Championship debut as Baltic & Scandinavian Qualifier

Sweden’s Andreas Harrysson will make his World Championship debut in January after finishing top of the Baltic & Scandinavian Regional Table.

The 44-year-old, from Målilla, has secured his spot in the 40-man field at the Indigo at the O2 next year, after keeping hold of top spot in the rankings following the last qualifying events in Sweden this past weekend.

Harrysson, who is ranked joint 82nd in the BDO, reached the semi-finals of the Denmark Masters in May, with runs to the last 32 of both the Denmark Open, and Saturday’s Swedish Open, putting him on 49 points in the Baltic & Scandinavian Regional Table.

His fellow Swede, Dennis Nilsson, boosted his chances of qualifying for a third BDO World Championship after winning the Swedish Open on Saturday, but his last 16 exit in Sunday’s Swedish Gents Classic meant Harrysson could no longer be caught at the top.

Harrysson won the WDF Europe Cup team event with Sweden last summer, while his sole BDO ranking title came at the Finnish Masters in May last year.

He is the second confirmed qualifier from the Regional Tables, with David Cameron having sealed his spot at a seventh consecutive BDO World Championship through Canada’s Regional Table a few months ago.

Paul Hogan (British Isles), Gabriel Pascaru (Eastern Europe), Darren Herewini (New Zealand), Joe Chaney (USA), Thibault Tricole (Western Europe) and Justin Thompson (Australia) currently top the other six Regional Tables.
