Scott Mitchell insists he will not take debutant Krzysztof Kciuk lightly when they meet in the second round of the 2019 BDO World Championship tomorrow.
The 2015 world champion eased through to the last 16 with a straight sets win against Oliver Ferenc at Lakeside yesterday.
And the sixth seed will next face Polish qualifier Kciuk, who continued his run at Lakeside with a 3-1 victory over 11th seed Dave Parletti.
“Every game that you’re the favourite, it’s a tough game,” Mitchell said. “People are going to expect me to do exactly what I did to Oliver to him, and it won’t happen that way.
“He’s Polish and the Polish guys are mentally strong for speedway and I think they’re mentally strong for this.
“We’ve got (Krzysztof) Ratajski who has been through the BDO system and now gone over to the PDC, and Krzysztof (Kciuk) is no exception.
“It’s big time for him. He’ll play well, without a doubt he’ll play well.”
Mitchell posted the second-highest average of the tournament so far, with a 94.64 average, and dropped just two legs on his way to beating the Serbian Ferenc.
“The first couple of sets I really dominated,” he said. “I knew what I had to do.
“Watching Oliver hit his doubles (in the previous game) every time he left one he hit one.
“So the tactic is ‘don’t let him have a go at one’ and that worked for me.”
