Scott Baker is ‘over the moon’ after beating Ross Montgomery 3-0 to clinch his first-ever win on the Lakeside stage.
The 32-year-old, from the West Midlands, knocked out the 15th seed in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the BDO World Championship.
Baker won all three sets 3-1 and finished off the match in style with a 103 checkout to set up a clash with the defending champion Glen Durrant in the last 16.
“It’s fantastic,” he said. “I’m absolutely over the moon. It means a lot, especially against Ross, because he’s such a high profile player.
“It’s always great to win, but to win up there is the icing on the cake.
“I would say that (me and Ross were quite even). We’ve come across each other before and we’ve got a good record against one another.”
Baker, who only started playing on the BDO circuit back in 2016, enjoyed a breakthrough 2018 as he reached the quarter-finals of the World Trophy and won the German Masters.
“Every year I’m always improving,” he said. “I feel I am (improving) year on year, because I enjoy it.
“I don’t take it too seriously, but you do have to take it serious.
“I ain’t here to lose. I’d like to go all the way. I like to think I can go all the way, it’s just proving it on the stage.”
