POLICE, POLAND – Toon Greebe fell one win short of completing the double in Poland at the weekend, as the Polish Open champion finished as the runner-up in the Police Masters to Mark Blandford.
Greebe, 30, who appeared in the PDC World Championship in 2008 and 2010, claimed his maiden BDO ranking title with victory in Saturday’s Polish Open.
The Dutchman defeated Grzegorz Działkowski (4-0), Jason Marriott (4-3), Martin Phillips (4-1) and BDO world youth champion Leighton Bennett (5-4) to reach the final, where he overcame Poland’s Sebastian Steyer 6-3 to secure the title.
The following day, Greebe was on course to complete the double as he progressed to the final of the Police Masters, but Blandford prevailed 6-4 in the decider, as the Welshman also opened his BDO ranking title account in Poland.
The two ladies’ titles were also shared at the weekend. Denmark’s Fie Skinnes defeated Stefanie Rennoch in the Polish Open final, while world number five Deta Hedman saw off Anna Hlavova in the Police Masters final to pick up her second ranking title of 2019.
