After a steady, if not spectacular, 4/10 on his 2024 wishlist, ALEX MOSS is back with his hopes for the next darting year aheadβ¦
ATTEND A EURO TOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME
We’re keeping this one on the wishlist until I tick it off. ‘Attend a PDC European Tour event’ has been on my darts bucket list for a while now, but I’ve not managed to cross it off the list yet.
On my 2024 wishlist I called for the Euro Tour to be extended, and towards the back end of last year we did get the news from the PDC that the 2025 Euro Tour would be expanded from 13 to 14 events.
So there’s an extra weekend and an extra opportunity to try and get to my first Euro Tour this year. Let me know which one you think I should go to for my first Euro Tour. Should it be Munich? Or somewhere in Belgium? Or maybe the stops in Switzerland or Hungary?
COMPLETE ‘THE 128’
For those of our listeners who follow the Weekly Dartscast on social media, you will often see during the year a list of all the current PDC tour card holders and how many of them have been a guest on the Weekly Dartscast.
Towards the end of 2023 we got close with 116 of the 128 having appeared on our podcast. I think that might be a new PB as well, as I don’t think we’ve been closer than that to having the full set before.
The end of the season sees the list shaken up and after Q-School we dropped to 104/128. We quickly ticked off two new tour card holders off the list last week with Adam Lipscombe and Tom Bissell both coming on the show.
Here’s the updated list so if there’s any of those players not in green that you can help put us in contact with, please get in touch!
400TH EPISODE
We’re closing in on another big milestone for the Weekly Dartscast this year – our 400th episode!
Last week we celebrated the eight-year anniversary of our very first episode, way back in January 17, 2017. The darting landscape was quite different back then. Phil Taylor was still on the PDC tour, Luke Humphries did not even have a tour card, and Luke Littler was a few days away from celebrating his 10th birthday!
Our 300th episode special a few years back we were joined by Des Jacklin from his hotel room in Torremolinos, whilst the prestigious Torremolinos Darts Festival was going on! Can we top that when our 400th episode rolls round sometime in April/May this year? Drop us a message with some ideas for possible guests you’d like to hear from to mark our latest milestone!
PLAY DARTS ABROAD FOR THE FIRST TIME
This one I did have lined up to tick off the list as early as next week with a trip planned to go to the Dutch Open for the first time. However, personal circumstances have put that visit to Assen on hold for this year and a debut in the biggest open darts tournament in the world pushed back now to 2026.
But whilst the Dutch Open debut won’t be on the cards in 2025, there’s still plenty of the year left to try and fit in another trip outside of the UK to chuck some darts.
There’s a few possible tournaments and weekends I’m looking at, but I’ve not made my mind up yet. I’m probably looking towards the second half of the year, from July onwards, so I’ll see if I can get the darts packed in the suitcase and on the plane and then I’ll be able to call myself an ‘international darts player’, right?
MORE COMMENTARY WORK
Back in December last year I was incredibly fortunate to get the chance to make my commentary debut at the WDF Lakeside World Championships. A shoutout to Dan McCarthy and the WDF for the opportunity to help out the commentary team with some co-comms during some of the opening weekend and midweek action at Lakeside.
Commentary is not something I’ve done before, but I enjoyed the experience immensely. It may end up being a one and done thing, but I’d love to get the opportunity to commentate again in 2025.
And let’s face it, who else will recall stories of the Crofters pub darts team in Bolton, name drop the GOAT Co Stompe, and bring up the 140 they hit with their second throw at the 2022 Viking Cup when given the chance?!
A PROPER SHOUT ON SKY
Keeping this one on the list again for 2025. We’ve been lucky to get plugs for the Weekly Dartscast during the coverage of tournaments such as the Euro Tours and Players Championships, and even on ITV during the 2023 UK Open.
Friend of the show Rod Studd will sometimes mention our podcast on Sky Sports as “one of the darts podcasts”. A running joke we have with him after the commentator John Rawling incorrectly name checked us on the ITV broadcast as “one of the boxing podcasts” during the 2023 World Series of Darts Finals!
We’re getting closer to that elusive proper name drop on Sky Sports, that’s for sure! Here’s hoping 2025 is the year we hear “one of the darts podcasts… the Weekly Dartscast” during the Sky coverage!
ATTEND THE MODUS SUPER SERIES
The MODUS Super Series has become one of the most popular darts competitions outside of the PDC. In its early days we often referred to it as “the never ending league” and that name still rings true with it being on pretty much all year round!
But you can’t argue with the opportunities it has given hundreds of players to play on a stage and in front of the cameras on a weekly basis. Most of the time the action is played out with no fans there, apart from the weekly finals night on the Saturday.
So I’m adding attend the MODUS Super Series and the infamous Live Lounge, in Portsmouth, to this year’s wishlist. Whether that be as a fan in the crowd or as an “influencer”, hopefully I’ll make the trip this year to see the Live Lounge in person!
JAMIE ROBINSON TO PLAY IN THE MODUS SUPER SERIES
Another repeat entry from my 2024 wishlist, but I have to say I’m feeling more confident about ticking this one off the list this year. Jamie Robinson, an ex-England international, PDC tour card holder, Challenge Tour title winner and Viking Cup quarter-finalist, was sadly snubbed from an invite to play in the MODUS Super Series.
After many months of trying to get him an invite, I had lost all hope of seeing him grace the Live Lounge stage. However…
Whilst I was at Lakeside, I was informed that Jamie had attended one of the ADC Vault events and won it! He’s since won five of them and, if he can win through the ADC qualifiers then there’s a spot at the Super Series coming his way!
Finish the story, Jamie!
REDISCOVER MY CUE ACTION
I’ve always been a bang average darts player, but I’ve always felt comfortable throwing the dart. Throughout most of 2024 I threw without a “cue action” (some people refer to it as a throw), so playing darts has not been enjoyable for me.
If I can rediscover my “cue action” then that’ll make the next and final item on my wishlist a little bit easier!
OBTAIN AN ADC RANKING
If I can tick ‘rediscover my cue action’ off my wishlist, then I’ll be keen to get out playing more darts again. Joining a team and entering competitions, and there’s quite a few ADC-ranked events around my area.
Despite not being able to throw, I still managed a quarter-final in one local competition last year. I’m not expecting any similar results, but the odd win here and there could give me some ranking points to have an ADC ranking.
